This is the recovered second version of Mr Rice.

I wrote Mr Rice in June-July 1993 after I completed my A Level exams, and had
a lot of time free. I basically wrote it due to pressure from my friends, who
thought that I was expert enough to write a game for the PC computer, and
also to get myself known as a programmer. It took me about four weeks or so,
and I used some control methods that I thought ought to be used more in games
of this type. The first of which is the keyboard read method. Mr Rice will
"act like a spaceship" insofar as if you push right, he will travel right
untill you push left. Then he stops, but continues to face right. Push left
once more, and he will then face left. One more time, and he will run left.
Another method was the natural scrolling. The screen will remain stationary
if Mr Rice is in it's center, but if he runs near the edge, the screen will
follow, slowly at first, then faster and faster until he nears the center
again, then it slows down. This makes it look like the game was being filmed
by a camera, and it looks more natural -(I got the idea for the scrolling from
watching a Formula 1 race on TV.)
This version of Mr Rice is the FAST 386/486 version with full parallex
scrolling, but no sound card support. I am working on AdLib and SoundBlaster
code, as well as the finishing touches for a 286/386 game. If you find Mr Rice
slow or jerky on your machine then you are running a version that uses code
for a faster machine. If you register (5-10), and give the information
about your machine that you want to run Mr Rice on, then I will send you that
type. If you want it, there will also be available a level editor for the game.
Also, this is the FULL game, taking up 4MB of disk space. Again, if you want
just the game, please register, and I will get a copy to you.
Please send all queries or comments to:
                              Joe Waller,
                              143 London Road,
                              Temple Ewell,
                              Dover,
                              Kent.
                              (England)
                              CT16 3DA.

  PS
I am working on a sequel, with faster code generation, and of more advanced
intelect. It WONT be a more-of-the-same sequel. It will just feature the same
central character. I hope to create a totally different graphics engine, and
artificial intellegence generator. If you have registered, then this will
also be sent to you, if complete.
A virus/DBLSpace mixup got the source code for Mr Rice, so this may still
have some bugs in it. I doubt it very much, but if you do find some, please
tell me, because I hate them.
